TimescaleDB is a nice hack that makes Postgresql more suitable for storing timeseries data.
On Ubuntu/Debian, just use TimescaleDB APT repo. That repo also adds a nice db tune script
sudo timescaledb-tune
The tune script will also enable the library by adding timescaledb
to shared_preload_libraries
line in postgres.conf
On Arch Linux, TimescaleDB is available in the official repos. After installing you need to manually enable timescaledb library.
Now you have to enable timescaledb extension on each database you wan to use it in
psql -h localhost -U username -W -d databasename
And then
CREATE EXTENSION IF NOT EXISTS timescaledb;
ALTER EXTENSION timescaledb UPDATE;
